ESFAHAN

It is the most beautiful city in Iran. Ancient city, but capital in the Safavid era, where it reached its maximum splendor. The city is ideal for walking and exploring the center and its neighbourhoods by foot. The Zayanderud flows under the magnificent bridges that connect the center with the Armenian quarter, a quiet destination where you can enjoy a tea.

Esfahan is home to many hotels and restaurants, especially inside the old bazaar which flows into the beautiful Shah Square, also called "half of the world", surrounded by imperial palaces and beautiful mosques.

Main sights:

  • Meydan-e Naqsh-e Jahan: "the half of the world" square, is the main sight in the city and the center of historical town, surrounded by the Shah Palace Ali Qapu, the big and majestic Shah Mosque, finely decorated with blue and light blue tiles, the Sheykh-ol-Loft Mosque with its turquoise-coloured dome, and the Qeysarye Bazaar one of the beautiful in iran.
  • Chehel Sotun Palace: the kingdom palace, its name it means "the forty columns", it has a large garden and the interior is richly decorated with frescoes.
  • The bridges: Esfahan has four old bridges on Zayanderud rivers the main ones are the Si o Se Pol, the "33 arches" bridge, and the Khaju Bridge.
  • Jame'e Mosque: the friday mosque, is the one of oldest mosques in Iran.
  • New Jolfa: this is the Armenian quarter, with its churches and its small squares is a great meeting place for young people during the evening. It is important to visit the Vank Cathedral with the Armenian Genocide museum.
  • Other sights: The old Fire Temple, Hasht Behesht Palace, the Jewish quarter, the swinging minarets and more.
